Clues about the secret mission. If you are astute and well traveled you might be able to figure out the clues.

Steam rising.

Yes. Ice can steam. You’ve seen it here first.

Even two minutes completely changes the color of the sunrise.

I should also like to point out that it was two degrees below zero when I stood outside, bravely mittenless, to take these pictures.  That’s-19 Celsius for you non-imperialists.

I’ve practically given it away now.

Ready for the best clue?

Uh, somewhere near the Atlantic Coast? Sorry, that’s my best guess.

  2. Yarnista's Mama Says:

Am I allowed to guess? If I get it right do I win a prize?

  4. Ingrid Says:

Along the Potomac somewhere? Inspiration for new colorways?

  5. guinevere Says:

Perhaps you went “home”, and that is Lake Superior - or any one of 10,000 other lakes….

I can’t imagine what that might have to do with yarn, though.

Perhaps you went to Scotland to get us true Shetland yarn? (I’m feeling clueless!)

But your photography is beautiful! Worth a frozen finger or two.

  6. Audrey Says:

It’s definitely been that cold here in MN!!!!

  7. Sandy Says:

    Well, I’m mystified!

  8. April Says:

    Alaska!!!

  9. Amy Says:

Well, it has been cold here on the East Coast - but not 2 degrees… at least not yesterday. At least not in my HOUSE at sunrise yesterday. We have had snow… I don’t know. BEAUTIFUL pictures though…

    Maybe you’re planning a 3IG retreat?? :D

  11. yarnardent Says:

Did I hear a suggestion of a 3IG retreat? Pant, pant, pant.

I give up. I think Mama should give it up!! :)

  12. Jaime Says:

Are you thinking about moving? Somewhere near where you grew up?

  13. Roxanne Says:

*coughtherosegardensinduluthcough* don’t ask me how I know; just know that astute is my middle name :P

  14. Jennifer Says:

It does look Atlantic. It looks a bit like Point Pleasant Park here in Halifax, but I’m not sure about the architecture. It’s been a while since I’ve been down there. And the -19 is about right, especially when you factor in the wind chill. Regardless, lovely photos. Hope you had warm socks, scarf, hat and mitts.

  15. Jennifer Says:

And up here, we call the ice steam “sea smoke” which is ridiculous but descriptivle.

    Duh - luth

  17. Daniela Says:

May I suggest photo number 5 for a colourway? :-)
    Daniela

  18. Jen W. Says:

I am going way back in the vault to my memories of grade 9 science… the change of state from solid to gas (i.e. ice to steam) is called SUBLIMATION. Hey, that sounds like a good name for a yarn colour way, doesn’t it?!?

    Cheers!

  19. Amy Says:

    Wouldn’t that be fun!??! A 3IG Retreat!!

  20. Deb Says:

Reminds me of Duluth MN but sure I am wrong…whatever it is…looks like incredible inspiration for new colors!

  21. Cathryn Says:

I have a better guess today :). Virginia Beach?

  22. Loraine Says:

Didn’t you say something about Seattle? Although, the MN guesses sound about right for a break for you. I forget from where you hail originally.

Wherever it is, it’s beautiful, even if too cold for me.
